Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali has welcomed the newly-formed cooperative framework between Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and PAS.

"This new development shows the maturity and leadership of Bersatu and PAS in their efforts to find common ground for the benefit of all Malaysians," Azmin said in a statement today.

This is part of a continuous and positive effort to bolster the two-party system and provide a dynamic, strong and viable alternative for the rakyat to replace Umno and BN, he said.

PKR will continue to cooperate with PAS and Bersatu, he said, to strengthen their partnership and the coalition and mobilise the rakyat so that the opposition can win in the upcoming 14th general elections.

"It is our claim to be led by wisdom and with an inclusive approach that sets aside partisanship and ideological differences in order to form a strong opposition coalition that can restore the dignity of the rakyat and save Malaysia," he said.

PAS and Bersatu held a closed-door meeting yesterday, without the presence of its respective presidents or Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Bersatu was represented by its deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir, who chaired the meeting.

Whereas PAS was represented by its deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, and vice-president Idris Ahmad.

They later released a joint statement which said the two parties have agreed to form a joint technical committee to follow up on the outcome of the meeting.

Bersatu has been looking to convince PAS to compete in straight fights against BN in the next elections.

However, PAS has been in disagreement with Bersatu's allies in Pakatan Harapan, namely Amanah and DAP.

Similarly, Mahathir has been butting heads with PAS, saying the opposition did not need them.
