Umno division leaders and a state youth wing chief are among the 375 individuals who received awards from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Federal Territories Day today.

The late deputy prime minister Abdul Ghafar Baba and former Public Services Department director Mohamad Zabidi Zainal were also awarded the Darjah Seri Utama Mahkota Wilayah, which carries the title "Datuk Seri Utama", Bernama reported.

Umno leaders awarded the Seri Mahkota Wilayah (SMW) award which carries the title "Datuk Seri" include cabinet ministers Abdul Rahman Dahlan and Johari Abdul Gani, Wangsa Maju division chief Shafei Abdullah and Bukit Bendera division chief Ahmad Ismail.

Ahmad was in 2008 suspended from Umno over remarks which then party president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said caused racial tensions.

Malaysia Makkal Sakhti Party president RS Thanenthiran, BN supreme council executive secretary Abu Khamis and the prime minister's communications advisor Ahmad Farid Ridzuan were also awarded the SMW ("Datuk Seri").

Meanwhile, Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Mohd Razlan Rafii and Labuan Umno vice-chief Khalid A Ghani were awarded the Panglima Mahkota Wilayah (PMW), which carries the title "Datuk".

Other politicians who are awarded the PMW ("Datuk") are Ramasamy Rengasamy (MIC Labuan chief) and Lee Beng Seng (Penang MCA Youth chief).

Puteri Umno Bukit Bintang chief and actress Anne Ngasri was awarded the Pingat Pangkuan Mahkota Wilayah which does not carry a title.

Others among the 19 awarded the SMW ("Datuk Seri") include:

  • Mazidah Abdul Majid (Deputy chief secretary in the Prime Minister's Department);
  • Abdul Rahim Mohd Radzi (Defence ministry chief secretary);
  • Jayasiri Jayasena (Ministry of industry and trade chief secretary);
  • Mohd Azhar Yahaya (Ministry of science, technology and innovation chief secretary);
  • Johan Abdullah (Tabung Haji chief executive officer and group managing director);
  • Abu Hassan Din Al-Hafiz (Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia syariah panel chairperson);
  • Low Wui Keong (CRSC Holdings Bhd chairperson);
  • Ahmad Zaini Othman (Malaysia Building Society Bhd president and chief executive officer);
  • Nik Norzrul Thani N Hassan Thani (Al Rajhi Banking and Investment Corporation [M] Bhd);
  • Daljit Singh (Malaysian Punjabi Chambers and Industries president);
  • Chiau Beng Teik (Midas Property); and
  • Lau Kuan Kam (PA Resource Sdn Bhd chairperson).

Others awarded the PMW ("Datuk") include:

  • Rose Lena Lazemi (Ministry of women, family and society chief secretary);
  • Junaida Lee Abdullah (Ministry of tourism and culture deputy chief secretary);
  • Rosida Jaafar (Federal Territories ministry deputy chief secretary);
  • M Noor Azman Taib (Federal Territories ministry division secretary);
  • Dr Noor Aliyah Ismail (Health ministry [dentistry] senior director);
  • Lee Chan Kuen (Kayamas general manager);
  • Ng Chin Chai (Badminton Association Malaysia secretary-general);
  • Zakran Abu Manan (Scouts Association assistant chief commissioner); and
  • Sunther Subramaniam (Makkal Osai Sdn Bhd managing director).

A total 32 people were awarded the Johan Mahkota Wilayah (JMW), 75 awarded Kesatria Mahkota Wilayah (KMW), 76 awarded Ahli Makhkota Wilayah (AMW) and 95 awarded Pingat Pangkuan Mahkota Wilayah (PPW).
