Invitations will be sent out for a Feb 8 meeting on a 'Save Malaysia Roundtable' to commemorate what would be the 114th birthday of Malaysia's first prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra.

DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang said political and civil society leaders would be invited to discuss how to "save Malaysia from (being a) global kleptocracy and a failed nation state".

Lim said in a statement: "I believe Tunku would be horrified that Malaysia has become a global kleptocracy and is heading towards a failed and rogue state.

"In fact, the second and third prime ministers, Razak (Hussein) and Hussein (Onn), would have been horrified by the trajectory of the nation under the sixth prime minister, Najib Abdul Razak."

Razak is Najib's father. Ironically, Najib, who is Umno president, will also be invited to the roundtable discussion.

The BN party presidents Liow Tiong Lai (MCA), Mah Siew Keong (Gerakan), Dr S Subramaniam (MIC), Abang Johari Openg (PBB), Joseph Pairin Kitingan (PBS), Joseph Kurup (PBRS), James Masing (PRS), Sim Kui Hian (SUPP) and Madius Tangau (Upko) will also be invited.

Opposition party chiefs Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR), Dr Nasir Hashim (PSM), Mohamad Sabu (Amanah), Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) and Abdul Hadi Awang (PAS), are also to be invited, Lim said.

"Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong, who heads the secretariat of the Save Malaysia Roundtable to commemorate Tunku’s 114th Birthday Anniversary, will send out the invitations to political and civil society leaders, as well as non-government individuals," he said.

Earlier, the Save Malaysia meeting saw participation from civil society heavyweights such as electoral rights group Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah and human rights body Proham president Ambiga Sreenevasan.

The group formulated the Citizens Declaration, which received more than a million signatures, and has been presented to then Yang di-Pertuan Agong Abdul Halim Muazzam Shah.

The declaration, among others, calls for Najib's resignation amid allegations of corruption - all of which were denied by the prime minister.
