Swedish furniture giant Ikea has issued a global recall of its MYSINGSÖ model beach chairs after reports of injuries in Finland, Germany, United States, Denmark and Australia.

Buyers can return the chairs to Ikea stores before Jan 31 for a full refund, it said. A receipt is not required.

Ikea said the incorrect reassembly of the removable fabric seat after washing has been found to lead to risk of falls or finger entrapment.

Five incidents had been reported, all of which required medical attention, it said.

"Safe products is a top priority at Ikea and all our products shall comply with international and national legislation as well as relevant standards.

"MYSINGSÖ beach chair has gone through relevant mechanical, fabric and chemical tests with approved result," it said.

"Ikea apologises for any inconvenience this may cause."

Ikea has voluntarily recalled more than a dozen products in the past two years, including a mattress for contravening flammability standards, a child safety gate due to fall hazard and baby mattress for risk of entrapment.

It has stores in Cheras and Damansara in Selangor.
