AMANAH AGM A Parti Amanah Negeri (Amanah) Selangor delegate has reminded Menteri Besar Azmin Ali the party is not hungry for posts in his state government.

However, said delegate Jamzuri Ardani, PAS leaders in the Selangor government are putting up obstacles to Amanah members in the state and this needs to be tackled lest Pakatan Harapan loses the state in the next election.

"Pakatan Harapan in Selangor is the mother of political ding dong. It's is really boring.

"We want to inform the menteri besar that Amanah is not hungry for posts (in his administration).

"We are not hungry for places in the (state) government," said Jamzuri Ardani when debating the president's address at Amanah's 2016 convention today in Shah Alam.

"What we want is to be accepted as a component party in the state, without the pressure and bureaucracy of the state government," he said, pointing out PAS members in the administration are posing problems to Amanah members.

"PAS ketua kampung (village chiefs), assemblypersons, council members, executive councilors, they are the ones opposing and blocking us from giving talks in the mosques.

"Some of their councilors are stopping us from using their halls," claimed Jamzuri, who is Selangor Amanah communications director.

PAS thorn in flesh

He said if Azmin does not handle the situation, he may lose the state back to BN in the next election.

"Should Amanah fail to win enough seats, we fear the menteri besar will be sitting in the opposition bench after the election.

"Thorns in the state government's flesh must be gotten rid off immediately," he warned.

The break up of Pakatan Rakyat following last year's PAS muktamar has left the PKR-led Pakatan Selangor government in a curious situation.

While the Penang government comprises the new Pakatan Harapan partners PKR, DAP and Amanah, Azmin has maintained PAS in his administration despite the Islamic party not being part of the new coalition.

PAS also officially broke ties with Pakatan partner DAP at its muktamar, which was a fiery affair that also subsequently led to the departure of its progressive members to form Amanah.

'Defend DAP'

On a related matter, Jamzuri said Amanah needs to step up efforts to help explain to the Malays that DAP is not a threat to the Malays, Islam and the country, a central point drummed up at Umno's recently concluded AGM.

He said Amanah will not be shy to tackle the issue and help stem the "sentiments of hatred, prejudice and misconceptions" that Umno has been spreading of late.

"Their (Umno's) main target is DAP, because it is Harapan's 'soft spot'.

"The issue was used to the maximum during the 13th general election, and was used […] to kill Pakatan Rakyat at the time," said Jamzuri.
