DAP senior politician Lim Kit Siang is questioning the existence of an anonymous 1MDB booklet, which he claimed was circulated at the Umno Annual General Assembly that concluded on Sunday.

At a press conference in Penang today, Lim held up the booklet titled “1MDB Pasca Laporan Audit Negara dan PAC - Saman DOJ Meragukan” (1MDB Post Auditor General and PAC Report - DOJ Summons Doubtful).

The Gelang Patah MP described the document as a “sh***y underground document that cannot stand the scrutiny of light”.

Lim said the booklet casts doubt that the person identified as “Malaysian Official 1 (MO1)” in the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) civil lawsuit to reclaim money allegedly laundered from 1MDB is Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

This is despite BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan admitting in a BBC interview that MO1 is none other than Najib.

“Are Umno and BN government back-tracking from Abdul Rahman’s admission that MOI is Najib?” Lim asked at a press conference in Penang today.

“Najib should explain if he is responsible for the 20-page glossy, coloured, expensive but anonymous booklet, with 19 questions and answers,” Lim said.

“How much does the booklet project cost? Does it come from public funds, and explain why he or the government dare not assume responsibility for the 1MDB booklet.

“That it had to be distributed at the Umno Annual General Assembly as if it is a sh***y underground document that cannot stand the scrutiny of light?” Lim asked.

While US federal prosecutors have filed the civil lawsuits seeking to seize assets worth more than US$1 billion, allegedly stolen from 1MDB, several countries like Singapore and Switzerland had also launched investigations into the Malaysian sovereign fund.

Najib’s stepson Riza Aziz, the founder of Red Granite Pictures; Malaysian financier Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low; Abu Dhabi government officials Khadem Abdulla Al-Qubaisi and Mohammed Ahmed Badawy Al-Husseiny have been named in the DOJ lawsuit.

Al Qubaisi and Al-Husseiny are former officials at a sovereign fund in Abu Dhabi that was involved in deals with 1MDB.

Najib has denied abusing public funds for personal gain, although the DOJ court papers stated that ‘Malaysian Official 1' received US$731 million in kickbacks, allegedly from 1MDB funds.

Attorney-general Mohamad Apandi Ali has also cleared the prime minister of any wrongdoing.
