I am not a fan of government subsidies as they benefit the rich more than the poor, for example petrol subsidies where those with bigger and more cars gets more benefits.

Only upon reading the Sun today did I realise that second and first class ward patients at government hospital enjoy subsidies, too. Never heard anything more ridiculous in my life. Why should there be any subsidy for these two classes? The cost should be charged in full. Those who can’t afford can always use third class facilities and there should be no issue.

The argument that only the lower income group go to third class and those with a bit more money go to second or first is precisely the reason why there should be no subsidy for these two classes. After all civil servants already enjoy free treatment at government hospital in the class according to their rank anyway.

So what would those who have a little bit more than the lower income group ask for next? Subsidies travelling on MAS business class?
