Rosmah's aide: Stop lying, Bersih, OSF funding speaks volumes
Rizal Mansor, aide to the prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor, wants polls watchdog Bersih to stop lying to the rakyat.
With regard to statement by Bersih top leaders Maria Chin and Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari that the Bersih rallies are free of violence, Rizal said this was nothing but an apparent lie.
"Their words are nothing but hypocrisy as it has been proven how previous Bersih rallies were marred by violent tragedies.
"Their denials cannot cover up the past sins of Bersih participants against the country's peace and harmony," he said in a statement today.
UPDATED 2.45PM | Rizal Mansor says statement that Bersih rallies are free of violence was nothing but an apparent lie.
Bersih rallies, he added, have been full of provocation, incitement and aggressive behaviour, all of which, claimed Rizal, were condoned by Bersih leaders.
“Bersih 5 leaders claimed they do not want to fight anyone and that they supposedly want justice to prevail.
“But isn’t going to the streets and bringing the message of disunity means that they are against democracy?”
Meanwhile, citing the purported funding of Bersih by billionaire George Soros' Open Society Foundations (OSF), Rizal said this had "proven everything".
"Soros has been full of revenge when it comes to our country, that's why he is willing to do anything to topple the government, including being the mastermind behind Bersih," he said.
Rizal added that track records of both Soros and OSF have shown how they are behind revolutions around the world which have been filled with bloodshed.
“As such, I ask that all Bersih leaders and supporters to look in the mirror first before talking about justice, transparency and democracy,” he said.
Despite police saying that Bersih has failed to comply with regulations under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, the electoral reform group is going ahead with its planned Nov 19 rally.
Bersih supporters and the red-shirts have clashed a number of times before the Bersih 5 rally is even held.
In last week’s demonstration held in front of the Malaysiakini office, red-shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos said the silat demonstration which saw men beating each other with sticks was only the start to what they were capable of doing.
