Selangor BN representatives have been using their constituency allocations for office expenses instead of for the people's welfare, said DAP's Kampung Tunku assemblyperson Lau Weng San.

"At his winding-up of Selangor Budget 2017 at the state legislative assembly yesterday, the menteri besar brought up this matter and urged them to use the allocation fully for the benefit of the people.

"The state government found that nearly all the BN lawmakers have used their monthly allocation of RM6,000 for up to seven to eight months. They replied that this was in line with the government circular.

"For your information, the money is part of the RM200,000 annual allocation given to each of the state opposition lawmakers since 2015," he said in a statement.

Selangor government has allocated RM800,000 to lawmakers of the ruling coalition for next year, compared to RM700,000 this year. An opposition BN representative will continue to receive RM200,000 annually.

"They have complained that they were in the dark over the RM200,000 annual allocation.

"It is impossible they did not know that the money was given for the benefit and welfare of the people," Lau said.

According to him, the BN lawmakers had rejected the money allocated to them in the 2015 state budget, demanding fair treatment as they also wanted the RM700,000 annual allocation given to lawmakers from the ruling coalition.

"Why are you quietly using part of the money when you had rejected the allocation two years ago?" Lau asked.

"If the lawmakers had used the allocation honestly on the people, the government might agree to increase it in the coming years."
