Former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysians to participate in the Bersih 5 rally on Nov 19.

In a note released through PKR, Anwar, who is serving a five-year prison sentence, said the pledge to uphold democracy had not been fulfilled.

"We have exhausted all means to strengthen democracy as affirmed in the Merdeka Declaration 1957 and Malaysia Agreement 1963.

"This trust had been violated. Bersih's demands were also ignored.

"Therefore, I urge all Malaysians, in the spirit of brotherhood, to participate in the Bersih 5 rally on Nov 19," he added.

The PKR de facto said the participation of every Malaysian would help to create change in the country.

Participants of the Bersih 5 rally are expected to gather at Dataran Maybank on Jalan Bangsar and Masjid Negara before marching to Dataran Merdeka.

The rally, among others, would urge Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's resignation over his handling of the 1MDB scandal.

Najib had denied wrongdoing or taking public funds for personal gain.
