I've read the letter by Road Runner and could not agree more with his point that parents have a duty to teach good habits as well as give good advice to their children on road behaviour.

I am staying in Melaka and am used to see children as young as 10 years old using motorcycles on public roads in housing estates. These children are obviously using these motorcycles with the blessing of their parents.

These parents seem to encourage their young children to break the law. If accidents occur, the insurance companies are not going to compensate for the loss of lives or damage to properties.

At times, I also see policemen on patrol ignoring these children on the motorcycles. Isn't it their duty to stop these children and advise them that their action is wrong? These children will think that what they are doing is right since policemen do not stop them.

It's useless to raise the age limit for getting a motorcycle licence if younger children are allowed to ride motorcycles with the blessings of their parents as well as of our policemen.
