Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s presence with Anwar Ibrahim ignites hope, nationwide.

The hottest topic spreading like a bushfire right into corporate corridors and warongs across the nation currently is Dr Mahathir’s more than just an appearance in court where the imprisoned Anwar is attempting to bring the National Security Act to justice.

Indeed, Dr M, whether you did not ‘make peace with Anwar’ or otherwise is not what it is. By your very strategic move you have beyond doubt ignited the hearts of millions of Malaysians who believed all this while that the most appropriate leader the nation seriously needs is Anwar.

There are no apologies if anyone is feeling slighted by this hope that millions of Malaysians cradle in their hearts.

And it is this hope that now has to battle with all the many odds that are being stacked upon us, you and Anwar himself by the Najib Abdul Razak regime that is slipping into higher gears.

Dr M, many of us may not be savvy, cunning, tricky politicians. But we can safely speak from that place of common sense, logic and sensible emotions.

You have nothing to lose to swallow your pride and prejudice; you have nothing to lose to take several steps back and reach out.

You know it all too well. Those of us with no vested interest except the care for the good name and well being of our nation know it, too.

Anwar is only 68. He has so much more the distance to go, God willing.

He is the only one who has tested, proven and earned the respect of leaders all over the world. Let not anyone’s greed for power and position cloud this fact about charismatic leadership.

He is the only one who achieved what none other could have, ie harnessing the divergent political interests of the opposition forces and he saw to a near destruction of Umno and its fleet of political components. We remember the ‘Chinese tsunami’ meant to distract everyone from the truth, ie that the Malay vote, too, did not back BN.

Today as we line up all the forces who are dead tired in returning some dignity and honour into this nation that was resurrected 59 years ago from feudalism and the clutches of colonialism as well as a near imperialism, it takes great humility and wisdom to own up to the fact that Anwar Ibrahim has to be the man of the hour, the salvation of a nation that is heading into the deep gorges of socio-political and economic disasters.

The nations in our neighbourhood are already born-again democracies and now have ignited hopes for a less corrupt governments and greater ethical societies.

Malaysia must make that quantum leap, too, and there cannot be a better time than now. And the ball is in your court, Dr M, even though your critics and poisoned crooks may not admit it.

That hope you have ignited should not be doused. Yes, will you step out from the cold and say and do all that it needs to take to fight this frightening scenario that is fast threatening Malaysia under the reign of a fiery Bugis warrior?
