PAS is not prepared to give its immediate commitment to the planned Bersih 5 rally, stating that it must discuss the matter first.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man told Malaysiakini that the party’s position will be announced in the future.

“The party has not made any decision.

“We will wait for the time being, then we will announce the party’s stance,” he told Malaysiakini in a text message last night.

He added that Bersih had yet to officially invite the party to participate in the rally.

Bersih yesterday announced it will hold a rally amid a global investigation into at least US$3.5 billion allegedly stolen from 1MDB.

Even though the Bersih 4 rally last year saw a strong turnout, some quarters turned it into a racial issue and criticised the purported lack of Malay participants.

This was largely attributed to PAS' decision not to mobilise its members to join the rally, which had at that time urged for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s resignation over the 1MDB scandal.
