Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has questioned why only Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) had been spared from the parking fee hike for the central business district (CBD) of Kuala Lumpur.

"It was a rushed decision, and suddenly we saw a cancellation (in fee hikes for) TTDI, whereas in other residential areas such as Bangsar, Kepong and Sri Hartamas, the fee hike remains," Nurul Izzah told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

She was speaking after handing a memorandum, signed by 800 residents and visitors in Lembah Pantai protesting against the parking fee hike, to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

DBKL had on July 18 raised parking fees in the CBD to RM2 for the first hour, and RM3 for the second hour, with a two-hour limit imposed.

However, two days later, the new fees were scrapped in TTDI.

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said yesterday that City Hall would review the fees for the middle and upper class suburbs of Bangsar, Sri Hartamas and Kepong in two or three days.

The widely panned move was aimed at easing congestion in the city, and promoting the use of public transport.

Nurul Izzah, who drove herself to City Hall in a Myvi, said congestion had eased in some areas, but said that the current public transport capacity was insufficient.

"If you want people to use public transport, you have to address connectivity and the increase in users.

"We are supportive of public transport, and increasing usage, but we want it to be a holistic policy that includes engagement with stakeholders, including MPs," she added.
