Currently, we are being jolted with lots of severe crises that engulfing the nation. Interestingly, it is not even strangling the existing government, but more so, it stabs the opposition alliance as well.

In the first point, the ruling party is facing the probability of the disappearance people’s trust in the next election due to the leakages of credible information related to 1MDB, Mara, Felda, the Youth and Sports Ministry and other integrity-violation issues which are continuously protracted.

As time has gone by I have become less interested in making any comment about those scandals as they are seen unambiguously endless. However, the main issues that I wish to drop you a line about here is the breakage of opposition alliance resulting from the obvious split among PAS leaders.

At the outset, the conflict was triggered between pragmatism and Muslim nationalism in the party due to the discrepancy and different approaches in politic which are prominently visible.

The lack of effort and determination to resolve the crisis has subsequently led to the removal of one of the factions. Consequently, it dragged on with the establishment of a new movement, the so-called ‘Parti Amanah Negara’ or Amanah with the intention to replace PAS as the dominant Islamic party in Malaysia.

Apparently, the ongoing dispute remains and the establishment of the new ‘splinters party’ is inevitable. Of course it is something hurtful, moreover if we could turn back the hands of time, we wouldn’t have done what we did.

Nevertheless, there is something ‘remarkable’ behind it. As far as we are concerned, both sides, PAS and Amanah, have their own extraordinary strengths over others. The first has strong grassroots within Malay community and latter has strong engagement with non-Malay society. If both strengths are consolidated, it will certainly frighten their actual opponents.

In addition, both sides have their own figures with different characteristic and capability. The first has plenty of religious scholars who should get off their high horse to spread the true Islamic thought and understanding among people, particularly the need of the current government to implement integrity and good governance practices.

The latter, likewise, consist of professionals could use their wisdom and experience to attract intellectuals and middle-class group to be with them.

Furthermore, in light of strategy, both sides have different approaches in the battlefield. I look upon these differences as powerful weapons in view of the fact that the more variety you have, the more idea you can generate to combat your opponents. In simple words, the bigger cake you have, the more slices you will get.

Meanwhile, the fact remains that the ongoing disputes are expensive, time-consuming and oftentimes fraught with emotion, in turn making them full of dullness. Having said that, both sides should act as complements instead of competitors to ensure the aforementioned strengths will be utilised thoroughly, which finally would be extremely beneficial themselves.

Last but not least, my hope to both sides is “Stop killing each other and concentrate to win back people’s hearts in the nick of time after you broke them.”
