Police issued 19,812 summonses in Kuala Lumpur during 15 days of 'Op Selamat 9/2016' which ran from June 29 to July 13.

Head of Kuala Lumpur Crime Prevention and Community Safety Contingent Headquarters Zazali Hashim said the amount increased by 786 summonses or four percent over the previous year's total of 19,026 summonses.

Zazali said the number of fatalities decreased by five people, from 11 last year to six this year.

"Among the main offences are speeding, using the emergency lane and overtaking at double lines," he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

In another development, during the duration of the operation, as many as 6,149 'back to kampung' forms were received when compared to only 1,362 forms the previous year.

"Of these, only two cases of burglary were reported compared with 15 housebreaking cases last year.

"This is a positive indication of the patrolling efforts undertaken which managed to reduce burglaries from occurring."
