Minister: 1MDB audit leak is treason

Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak said leaks in government information spotlighted in Sarawak Report's articles on the auditor-general's report on 1MDB is treasonous and undermines national security.

However, DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua urged police to take action against those who may have swindled 1MDB funds, instead of the whistleblowers.

Senior lawyer Haniff Khatri also disputed Salleh, whom he said was endorsing abuse of the Official Secrets Act by classifying information beneficial to the nation to protect possible wrongdoing by elites.

Snap polls for Penang?

DAP is mulling a snap state election in Penang or replacing Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng with Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy, after Lim claimed trial to corruption last month.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan snidely suggested that the new CM should be someone with less of a 'tokong' (deity) aura.

However, Penang Umno chief Zainal Abidin Osman said it is improper and a waste of taxpayers' funds to call an election as a referendum on Lim.

The Malaysian Bar said it still too soon to say if Lim should take leave pending the outcome of the corruption trial, as it depends on the evidence the prosecution will adduce and if Lim can interfere with that.

On the same topic, Lawyers for Liberty said it is improper for attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali to lead the prosecution against Lim as Apandi is a former Federal Court judge and this could adversely impair the judgment of the sitting High Court judge.

Another Hindu temple vandalised

Police formed a special investigation team after more statues of Hindu deities at a Penang temple were vandalised - the fourth incident in two months.

Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh urged police to give public regular updates on the case and said existing laws do not act as a deterrent.
