PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin today said the contents of jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's second letter does not affect PKR's working ties with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"I don't feel that the contents of the note is to undermine our ongoing efforts with Mahathir.

"We respect the Citizens' Declaration," said Shamsul when met at a breaking of fast function for state civil servants in Sungai Besar.

The Star had yesterday quoted a source as saying Anwar had issued a second letter from behind bars.

This time the letter reportedly advised Shamsul to exercise wisdom and restraint when dealing with Mahathir.

Syamsul also confirmed that the "personal note" was passed on to him a few days after Anwar penned his eight-page handwritten letter for the party’s leadership.

Commenting further, the Bukit Katil MP said the second note was not much different from the first one.

"Maybe because of my long relations with Anwar, since my university days, it attracted his attention to further furnish me with a more concise note," he said.

Shamsul also stressed that there should be no issue with the note being leaked, citing concerns of increased security for Anwar.

Asked how the letter could have been leaked, he said he was unaware.

"From my conversations with several party leaders after receiving the note, we will make comparisons.

"Maybe from there it could have leaked," he added.

During the two-week campaign period for Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections, Mahathir had openly declared his support for Parti Amanah Negara's candidates, on grounds that they endorsed the Citizens' Declaration to remove Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
