SG BESAR POLLS Sungai Besar PAS election director Iskandar Abdul Samad has defended the party's use of divine retribution as a means to coax support for its candidates in the twin by-elections.

"Why should it be wrong? In an election, we should make the right choices.

"The impact is not just to us but to all Malaysians," Iskandar said at a press conference at PAS' operations centre in Sungai Besar.

Iskandar said this when asked to comment on election watchdog Bersih's statement that using divine retribution as a means to coax Muslim voters into supporting the Islamist party was an election offence.

Bersih said this was according to Section 9(1) of the Election Offences Act.

Bersih was commenting on PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's warning to voters about the danger of incurring God’s wrath should they cast their ballots for the wrong candidates in the two by-elections.

Meanwhile, Iskandar reiterated that a victory for BN would spell disaster for all Malaysians.

"We must vote wisely to elect a candidate who will not bring problems and (negatively) impact the people," said Iskandar, who is also Selangor PAS commissioner.

Iskandar also said there was nothing wrong with PAS' Sungai Besar candidate Dr Abdul Rani Osman attending a Pakatan Harapan function with Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali yesterday.

"This is part of the matured politics that PAS is trying to bring. It is the MB (Azmin) who came so I don't see a problem (for Rani) to be there and meet him.

"Furthermore, he came not in any party's shirt but an ordinary white shirt," Iskandar said before adding, "and a green sarong".

Rani similarly said there was nothing wrong with him attending the function.

"You must take what he (Azmin) said as a whole... he also told me don't be sad and that he would pray for me," Rani said.

Asked whether he was disappointed, Rani said: "Not at all. I am very happy."

Azmin had previously been urged to openly state his support, either for Azhar as Pakatan Harapan's candidate, or Rani, as PAS is a member of the state government.
