PAS today sacked former vice-president Husam Musa after finding that his actions had breached the party constitution.

Its disciplinary committee said the decision to sack Husam was made after considering the case from all aspects and taking into account party interests and complications that Husam's actions had caused.

The committee, which sat on April 23, found that Husam had resorted to actions that went against the party constitution.

"Hence the committee unanimously decided to take disciplinary action to sack Husam from the party, effective April 23," said the committee's chairperson Dr Sanusi Daeng Mariok.

Sanusi said the dismissal was based on Article 82 (6)(d) of the party constitution (Amended 2011).

Husam, who was a protege of late PAS spiritual adviser Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, was referred to the committee for challenging and criticising party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

A blessing in disguise?

Meanwhile, Husam expressed sadness if the decision to sack him was true, saying that he only received this information from unconfirmed sources.

“I joined PAS in 1982, like many young people at the time, and have given the party my all in what I think is a noble struggle in uplifting Islam to light up our lives and the country. I am only a small man,” he said in a statement.

“Islam is a comprehensive or syumul (complete) religion, which gives right to anyone to criticise and voice out against any leader, based on what is right and sincere.

“This is what happened to Sayidina Abu Bakar and Umar (the first two caliphs of Islam) and other leaders who allowed others who are lesser in stature than them, or even their citizens, to criticise them,” Husam said, admitting that the decision had moved him to tears.

He said there might be a blessing in disguise in this (the move to sack him) and cited Prophet Muhammad, who had also faced many challenges in his life.

Husam said he would only issue an official statement on the matter (the sacking) after he had been officially informed.

“At present, I have not been officially informed. For this reason, I will attend the PAS Kubang Kerian meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

“May the month of Syaaban and Ramadan increase our piety and struggle of Islamic idealism that we have been fighting for,” he said.
