(AFP) - The government will rein in disc jockeys who overstep the mark with personal comments, Information Minister Khalil Yaakob said today.

DJs should realise there are limits to what they can say, he told his ministry's monthly gathering.

There was no need to make insinuations, "lower the dignity of other people in public and make bad remarks against individuals merely to make our station more popular than others..."

It was not clear whether his complaints were against disc jockeys working for the government radio and TV station RTM or against private broadcasters.

Not was it clear what prompted the rebuke.

But Khalil, quoted by Bernama news agency, said "stern action" would be taken against those who breached the limits.
