After a slew of DAP leaders were barred from entering Sarawak, party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has decided to board a flight to the East Malaysian state.

Giving advance notice, the Penang chief minister disclosed that he would be taking an AirAsia flight to Kuching at 7.05am tomorrow.

He would be accompanied by state executive councillor Chow Kon Yew.

A check with the Immigration Department website with the chief minister’s MyKad number reveals that he is not subjected to any travel ban by Sarawak.

Lim has penned a letter to Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem, asking Adenan to allow DAP members into the state as they are on legitimate political-related activities.

Speaking at a press conference today, Lim said Adenan has yet to respond to his letter, which was sent on Tuesday.

Lim also reminded his Sarawak counterpart that barring those who have not committed any crime from entering the state is an abuse of power.

'Isn't this an abuse of power?'

"We respect and support Sarawak’s autonomy in immigration matters.

“But why prohibit opposition leaders alone and only allow them to enter after the state election? Isn't this an abuse of power?" he asked.

Sarawak will be holding its 11th state election on May 7, with the nomination of candidates taking place on April 25.

Meanwhile, Lim said the Sarawak government cannot justify its action citing the banning of some BN members, as there is a difference between them and opposition leaders in terms of rank.

He also lamented that Adenan's actions in this were worse than his predecessor, Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Apart from DAP leaders, the Sarawak Immigration Department has also prevented other Pakatan Harapan lawmakers and civil society activists from entering the state.
