Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia has warned reporters against interviewing non-parliamentarians in the Parliament lobby.

This followed a doorstop interview of Umno lawyer Mohd Shafee Abdullah by reporters at the lobby last Thursday.

Pandikar said his November 2012 ruling barring non-parliamentarians from holding press conferences in the lobby is still in effect.

"I will not compromise with anyone […] Sometimes people come into parliament and get doorstoped by reporters although they have no intention to hold press conferences.

"On that, I urge the MPs themselves and media representatives to cooperate. Don't do that because the ruling is still in effect.

"Next time if this happens, I will not hesitate to call up the editors whether from news portals or newspapers," he reminded in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Pandikar said he had learnt of Shafee's doorstop interview following a complaint from DAP's Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him.

The speaker said he has ordered his officers to investigate the matter and has reviewed the CCTV recordings of the scene.

Pandikar expressed regret that the parliament press corps liked to chase after prominent personalities whenever they enter parliament.

"Or should I say 'ambush', because I had been on the receiving-end of this a few times. They (reporters) chase after us with microphones to get a response on a statement by someone else.

"Unfortunately if we cannot not slip away, we would have to respond," he said.
