DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua said there was no need for Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to go on leave over the controversy surrounding his bungalow purchase unless charges are brought against him.

"No... (only) when charged, then (the person) should take time off," he told journalists at the Parliament lobby today.

Otherwise, Pua said people could simply file reports against anyone to make them go on leave.

"Very simple: we create another report against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, should he take leave?

"This (Guan Eng's case) was reported to MACC, but MACC didn't say (there's) prima facie (case), they just said they have received the report and are looking at it.

"When the MACC brings charges, then the person must go on leave.

"Otherwise, we will all be subjected to all sorts of funny accusations without basis (and then) suddenly we have to take leave," he said.

He was asked to respond to Penang PAS Youth Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden's call for Lim to go on leave pending investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Several reports have been lodged with the MACC after Tasek Gelugor MP Shabudin Yahaya accused Lim of purchasing his bungalow last year below market price.

Pua said the MACC should quickly decide whether it has a case to file charges.

"We are not asking them to delay. In the case of 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion issue, it is coming to a year and nothing has happened.

"(In this case), we are asking MACC to check whatever you want to check.

"Within a week, please announce whether you want to charge or not," he said.

Meanwhile, DAP's Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming claimed the matter is not an issue as Lim has responded "clearly".

He added that the seller of the bungalow also has not interest in the state government.

"This was a very open deal.... Lim had also welcomed the MACC to probe the matter as soon as possible," he said.
