Humans are responsible for litter, not any other
Apparently there is a move to ask the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to widen the ban on polystyrene as this is the cause of litter everywhere.
As usual we are barking up the wrong tree. So since cars cause accidents we should ban cars as well? Plastic bags have many uses, many of us use plastic bags for rubbish disposal into the wheelie bins, and otherwise we have to buy plastic bags. So banning polystyrene is a silly idea. How about banning humans as humans are the cause of much destruction? Sounds silly, right?
Malaysia as a whole is a litterbug heaven, maybe our tourism tagline should be ‘Visit Malaysia, free and easy on litter’ or ‘Come and litter as you like, why not, all Malaysian do’.
We are really notorious in just chucking litter all over. We love to blame foreign workers for the litter everywhere but they learned from us. If one goes to Dubai where there are millions of foreign workers, there is hardly any litter to be seen anywhere as in that country they follow the example set by its residents.
Don’t just blame the uneducated or the poor, even the well-off do it. Just pay a visit to KLCC and observe the habits of the tower occupants who have to come out to smoke.
There is a section between the entrance to the mall and the entrance to the car park lift near tower two which is a hot spot for smokers. You can see for yourself how these well-heeled smokers, clearly with tags from companies operating out the office towers, just chuck cigarette butts and empty packets on the ground and the cleaners have to keep cleaning them. There are sufficient bins in the vicinity to throw these butts but no one cares.
If the so-called cream from our premier companies cannot set a good example to others, how could we expect anyone else not to be litterbugs?
I am wondering why the top management from these companies do not remind these litterbugs to set a better example and safeguard the companies’ image.
We just don’t care, we expect the Indonesian and Bangladeshi workers to pick the mess up after us. Ridiculous and pathetic, I say.
Ban polystyrene bags? Seriously? You think litters will magically disappear. Zap the litterbugs first.
