PKR vice-president R Sivarasa has questioned Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said for stopping questions about 1MDB from being raised in Parliament.

The Subang parliamentarian said such an order should only come from the Dewan Rakyat speaker and not a minister.

“ The order should not come from a minister. She doesn't not run the Dewan Rakyat. She is acting like a speaker,” he told a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

Azalina said yesterday that questions regarding the RM2.6 billion political donation scandal can no longer be raised in Parliament, claiming that this would be tantamount to sub judice.

This followed the filing for judicial review by the Malaysian Bar against attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali's decision to not to press charges against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, following investigations into the scandal.

The Malaysian Bar on Tuesday filed an application for a judicial review on the attorney-general’s decision not to prosecute Najib.

In its application, the Bar seeks a High Court order to set aside the AG’s January 26 decision to clear Najib of wrongdoing over the RM2.6 billion donation and RM42 million from state fund SRC International found in his personal bank accounts.

Sivarasa, who is also a lawyer, said former de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim, too, had filed a judicial review on the AG’s decision.

Thus, it is strange for Azalina to suddenly block questions in Parliament on 1MDB based on this new application.

“The Malaysian Bar filed this two days ago but Zaid already filed the same – an application for a judicial review against the AG’s decision.

“This was done months ago and we did not get any comments from Azalina. Now, suddenly, she wants to use the Bar case to say we cannot discuss anything as it is sub judice,” Sivarasa said.

Zaid filed the application at the High Court to seek leave for a judicial review the AG’s decision last month.
