Lim Guan Eng has urged the new opposition alliance not to play “hide and seek” with regard to their stand concerning Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Umno.

“PAS did not support the Citizens Declaration which seeks the removal of Najib, and instead they seem to want to maintain their support for the prime minister.

“This makes people question whether a vote for PAS is a vote for BN,” he added.

The DAP secretary-general was responding to the announcement that PAS will work with Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) to form a third force.

Lim stressed that while PAS and Ikatan have the right to form an alliance, the pertinent question is what changes can these parties institute.

However, the Penang chief minister said he will leave it to the people to judge if the new alliance can serve as an alterative to both BN and Pakatan Harapan.

Lim said for any coalition to make an impact in the country, it must be inclusive, and promote minority rights, especially of women as they have an important role to play in the country.

“The new coalition must be strongly against corruption, and don’t be like PAS in the case of 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion (political donation), the party’s stand was weak,” he recalled.

Lim was referring to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s remark that witnesses are needed to prove Najib’s wrongdoing.

Najib has always maintained that he did not use the money for personal gain and has been cleared of any wrongdoing by attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali.

Lim said to garner people’s support, PAS needs to show that they do not impose policies like BN.

He cited the example of massive forest clearing and logging in Kelantan which was believed to have caused the massive floods at the end of 2014, which saw about 200,000 people displaced from their homes.

“They must not have policies which are worse than BN. For example, by continuing to allow flood victims to live in tents although the disaster happened two years ago.

“If the new coalition cannot prove they can be better than BN, don’t hope to get the people’s support,” he added.
