PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the action of the Save Malaysia group to sign the Citizens' Declaration asking for the removal of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak via all legal means from office and for democratic reforms, is a "useless" venture.

"Yes it is useless. (I am not just) simply saying it is useless. And we have our reasons too," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

He said that the only democratically allowed process to remove a sitting prime minister was either via a vote of no-confidence or an election.

However, he added that it would be impossible to go ahead with a no-confidence motion as it would require majority support from both Umno and BN parliamentarians.

"If Umno representatives do not want to change, and we are the only ones who want to, how can it be done?"

Other than that, Hadi also said that for PAS itself, the party still has mixed views over the declaration.

He said that there are some parts of the declaration which PAS agrees with, but others which it does not.

“As for the Rakyat’s Declaration I have said so earlier, there are some places which we agree. What we agree with is on the need for change, what we don’t is the hasty timing.

“We have no consensus in this matter,” he said.

Asked if the party will convene a meeting to discuss the declaration, Hadi dismissed the idea.

“There are some issues we need to convene meetings, others only require the views of several leaders. Not all will require a meeting,” he said.
