DAP chairperson Karpal Singh, who was injured in a car accident last week, is expected to be fit to attend the new session of the Dewan Rakyat next month.

His son, Gobind Singh, said today that Karpal's condition remains stable. He is being treated for neck and back injuries at the Gleneagles Medical Centre in Penang.

The Bukit Gelugor MP was returning home in a taxi from the Bayan Lepas airport in Penang last Saturday night, when the vehicle was hit by another car.

"He is alert...we expect that he will be able to go to Parliament next month," Gobind said when contacted.

Moved out of ICU

Gobind said his father has been moved from the ICU and is now under observation at the general ward.

"He's getting well, and his condition is being assessed every day. It has improved a lot, but we will only know in a week as to when he will be discharged," he added.

Last September, Karpal was suspended for six months for having misled the House over the oath-taking ceremony for MPs.

The suspension will be lifted when the Dewan Rakyat convenes from March 21 to April 28.
