Each and every one of the country’s prime minister had faced movements that went against them.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamid said this when asked on the proposal by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad that a core group be set up in the fight against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

“For every prime minister, there had been such movements. So this is not something that should be of concern,” Zahid said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

He further pointed out how if a particular organisation was strong, any disturbances from the outside would not affect it.

“If we have strong beliefs and if we are consistent, any disturbances that come our way will be faced calmly.

“This will ensure that unity becomes the unshakeable pillar of that particular organisation, especially Umno,” he said.

Mahathir had proposed the setting-up of a core group to coordinate the fight against Najib during his press conference on Monday during which he also announced that he was leaving Umno,

Zahid was also asked whether the government would be taking action against The Wall Street Journal for claiming that more than US$1 billion was deposited into Najib’s personal bank accounts.

Zahid said he was of the opinion that this was merely an agenda set by international media outlets.

“We will leave this to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Communications and Multimedia Ministry to take action.

“It’s up to them to study (this),” he said, when pressed further on whether legal action would be taken against the US business daily.
