Puteri MCA: Bahau branch accepts No decision

The MCA branch which has 'inaugurated' its own MCA Puteri said it would conform with the order from the party to be attached to Beliawanis, an organisation under the party's Wanita wing.
But the MCA Acbe Garden branch chief says that it will still consider the set-up as an unofficial Puteri wing, as the status is important.

"We respect the decision of the party and we will continue to work for the party," said MCA Acbe Garden branch chairperson Yap Ching Leong when contacted today.
However, the branch will still consider the Beliawanis unofficially as 'Puteri', he said. The Acbe Garden branch is located in Bahau, Negeri Sembilan.
"We should encourage the young women to join the party and expose them to politics at a young age. By being a Puteri wing, its status will be upgraded," he said.
He said the setting up of Puteri MCA should be a gradual process which he believes would eventually be accepted by all in the party.
"I understand why Wanita MCA did not agree to set up the Puteri wing. It also happened to Puteri Umno too. But I am optimistic that the MCA will accept the concept of 'Puteri' one day," he said.
Not confrontation
He said the aims to set up the Puteri wing is to attract younger women members and help to recapture the state assembly seat which they lost in the last general election.
"We are not doing something to confront the party. We are helping the party to grow, so we should not be very forceful in this matter," he added.
Yap said that the branch would continue to utilise party mechanisms to promote the setting up of Puteri.
MCA's See Ah Kow lost the Bahau state assembly seat to DAP's Lim Fui Ming in the general election last March.
Yesterday, MCA secretary-general Dr Ting Chew Peh said under the party constitution, only the Youth and Wanita movements are the recognised wings of the party.
