Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak must answer whether nearly or more than US$1 billion from 1MDB was deposited into his personal bank accounts, DAP lawmaker Tony Pua said.

"The prime minister must stop giving excuses that The Wall Streets Journal (WSJ) is hatching a conspiracy (against him),” he told a press conference at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Pua also queried whether attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali knows where this money came from.

"Is it from the same Arab donor, or this time, from a Pakistani donor?

"I don't know. They must explain and cannot just sweep everything under the carpet. They just cannot say WSJ is running a conspiracy against the Malaysian government," he said.

The WSJ reported fresh allegations that deposits totalling more than US$1 billion went into Najib's personal bank accounts.

Pua challenged Najib to take action against WSJ in Malaysia, Hong Kong or in the United States.

"If action cannot be taken against WSJ in Malaysia, then do it in the US. Why doesn't he sue the paper?” asked Pua.

Meanwhile, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang urged Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Hasan Arifin to give a public assurance that there will be a 100 percent attendance of PAC members on March 4 and 7 when they deliberate on the auditor-general’s final audit report on 1MDB.

"If the attendance won't be 100 percent, how can he (Hasan) fix a meeting on March 4 and 7?

"Hasan still owes a explanation as to why several PAC members went overseas although the PAC meeting was (originally) fixed on Feb 24 and 25," he said.

He also urged PAC to summon Najib, the current and former attorneys-general (Apandi and Abdul Gani Patail), and other important personalities involved in the 1MDB case.

Meanwhile, on his meeting with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday to discuss the current national situation , Lim declined to elaborate.

"I think you need to ask Mahathir. I am in no position to speak on his (Mahathir's) behalf," he said.

Asked whether he has invited Mahathir to join DAP, he said no offer was made.
