Umno supreme council member Abdul Rahman Dahlan said he believed that it was up to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad if he wanted to declare his wealth or not.
"It is up to him," said Rahman.
He was asked to comment on recent suggestions that Mahathir declare his assets as he continues to attack Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for alleged corruption.
Last January, Attorney-General Mohamad Apandi Ali had cleared Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of any criminal wrongdoing with regards to the RM2.6 billion 'donation' deposited into the PM's personal accounts as well as the movements of monies from SRC International which my have ended in the same place.
Commenting further, Rahman said that Apandi's decision to clear Najib was a collective decision and not his alone.
"The AG did not come to the decision on his own. He has a team of experienced legal officers from the AG's Chambers.
"Every piece of information that was submitted by the MACC was thoroughly evaluated. He did not simply look at the file and then made the decision unilaterally," said Rahman.
He added that the decision to close both cases was also made collectively.
Rahman said that while Apandi had impeccable credibility, there were those who refused to accept the decision.
He said those who disagreed with the AG were also intentionally trying to smear Apandi with a negative image.
"I don't know what else is there to discuss as in the view of Umno and the government, the matter has been resolved with the AG's decision," he said.
