The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Operations Review Panel will be meeting today amid speculation that it could soon be disbanded.

A source told Malaysiakini that that the eight-member panel is expected to meet this morning.

However, the source declined to reveal details on the agenda for the meeting.

The terms of office of several of the eight panel members end today and any extension of their terms will be decided by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The meeting has been slated to begin at 9.30am and an official statement is expected to be released after the meeting.

The committee has been reportedly pushing for MACC's investigations into financial scandals implicating Najib to be reopened.

This follow attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali's decision last month to close files on three investigation papers linked to the RM2.6 billion donation and RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd deposited into Najib's personal bank accounts.

On Jan 26, Apandi cleared Najib of any wrongdoing and claimed that the balance of the RM2.6 billion donation had been returned to the donor in Saudi Arabia.

Apandi also ordered the MACC to abandon overseas investigations into the 1MDB matter under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty.

The review panel is one of five oversight committees set up following the rebranding of MACC in 2009.

It was previously reported that Apandi had, on Feb 18, cancelled his meeting with the panel, believed to have been scheduled since last year.

It was also previously reported that MACC's review panel and its special panel want the anti-graft body to engage with Apandi to help explain why he is not pressing charges against Najib.
