It appears attorney-general (AG) Mohamed Apandi Ali has snubbed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission panel over their meeting today with a last-minute cancellation.

A panel member, who confirmed the cancellation, said Apandi called it off although it was scheduled to take place at 3pm at the AG’s Chambers.

"We do not know whether we would get to meet him (after this), as our term is scheduled to end before the end of this month," he said.

The source added that they think it is unlikely Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will renew the term of the panel members, in the belief that Najib is not favourable to the panellists.

This is speculated to be due to the present panel’s calls for Apandi to review its decision to MACC's recommendations on its investigations on Najib over the RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ and the RM42 million SRC International Sdn Bhd transactions.

It was previously reported that the MACC's operations review panel and special panel wants the body to engage with Apandi to help explain why he is not pressing charges against Najib.

The panel’s term ends on Feb 24, which gives the present team less than a working week to follow up on the matter.

Postponed to later date

Another source confirmed with Malaysiakini that the meeting had been postponed to an undetermined date.

"However, we do not know the reason for the cancellation (of today's meeting)," said the source on condition of anonymity.

It is understood that the meeting had been planned since last year following Apandi's transition from Federal Court judge to become the AG replacing Abdul Gani Patail.
