Kindly allow me to refer to the letter Goodness! Has UUCA been repealed for Umno?

I would be most surprised if the Universities and University Colleges Act has been repealed without fanfare, given the good public relations points Barisan Nasional would have gained for doing so.

But coming back to political reality in Malaysia, it would appear to be just a slip by Norza Zakaria for forgetting Puteri Umno's advantageous position on our non-level-playing field. Being Puteri Umno members, they have special access to government departments, ministries, schools, colleges and universities.

The UUCA only applies to opposition party members and supporters, just like the rules relating their visits to schools. Ministers may welcome them into their offices but they treat opposition members, even members of parliament, with contempt and suspicion.

Similarly, overseas, Umno clubs are free to operate in universities but students are watched closely for any support towards opposition leaders and their events. Scholarship holders have been warned for their overt opposition-related activities and threatened with the withdrawal of their scholarships.

What I cannot understand is that, in spite of the level of education and the piousness of our leaders, they cannot implement policies with fairness. Perhaps power and greed have overruled their sense of fairness and justice.

All we are asking is a level-playing field in a general election and that may the best person win.

The first, as well as the present leader, of Puteri Umno are lawyers. They should know the rules and should educate their members to follow them. If possible, try to be ethical too.

During the last election, as an election agent, I was asked if a Puteri Umno member could join in to assess how the Malays voted. For that particular constituency, MCA stood under the BN banner and since their representative was already there, I disagreed.

But I was actually surprised at the suggestion, as election agents are properly appointed by the respective candidates and nobody else other than voters should be allowed in during the election process.

This is an example of Puteri Umno's perception that they are 'special' wherever to go to.
