An Indonesian man swept out to sea by tsunami waves two weeks ago has been rescued by a passing ship, a Malaysian official said today.

Twenty-two-year-old Ari Afrizal from Desa Kabung in Aceh province on Sumatra island was picked up by an Omani cargo vessel, the Al Yamamah, a spokeswoman for Klang's Westport harbour told AFP.

"They found him in the ocean and are bringing him to Westport," said Sasheila Paramsothy, adding that she had no further details of the rescue.

Third survivor

This is the third Indonesian survivor picked up by passing ships and brought to Malaysia since the Dec 26 tsunamis which killed more than 156,000 people around Asia.

The other two - Rizal Shahputra, 20, and pregnant housewife Malawati Daud, 23 - survived by clinging to floating trees.

Shahputra, who was at sea for eight days, has asked to be allowed to remain in Malaysia, while Malawati, who spent five days adrift, wants to return home to search for her relatives in Sumatra when she is released from hospital.
