Several hotspots around Kuala Lumpur, namely Bukit Bintang, Bangsar and Hartamas, have been identified as potential targets of terrorist attacks, Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said today.

He said the areas targeted by Islamic State (IS) rebels include popular shopping and tourist spots, The Curve Damansara, Solaris Dutamas and the KL Tower.

"We have identified IS hotspots in KL (including) Bukit Bintang, Bangsar, Hartamas, The Curve, Publika and KL Tower," he told reporters after launching the Federal Territories flag waving campaign in Putrajaya this morning.

The Putrajaya MP said authorities are now adopting a high level of vigilance at the identified areas, including by increasing the number of security personnel on duty.

Tengku Adnan ( photo ) added that areas being monitored also extends beyond Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya and Labuan.

"All agencies under the ministry has been instructed to be on high alert and increase security at public places in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

"Together with the police, we will increase the number of security personnel and if there is a need, we will also discuss with the defence ministry, to request assistance from the military," he said.

In the wake of the Sarinah bombing in Jakarta last week, Tengku Adnan urged all quarters to lodge a police report should they encounter any suspicious individuals.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar yesterday confirmed that authorities have arrested a man suspected to be linked to IS.

Khalid reportedly said that weapons and IS documents were seized from the man arrested at Setiawangsa LRT last Friday.
