We live in a time of great technological achievement. The military infrastructure in developed countries can track an object the size of a truck from satellites orbiting way above the planet.

During recent wars, we have seen how smart bombs can precisely detect and destroy targets from great distances.

One cannot help but wonder why then the recent terrifying tsunami waves that took over 155,000 lives in Asia was not detected earlier. If the tsunami had been detected earlier and the appropriate warnings had been sent out, the effects tragedy could have been minimised.

Are our global resources being harnessed for the preservation of life or is the best technology going towards creating better and more efficient ways of killing people?

Surely this is the appropriate time to reconsider our priorities.
