A PKR lawmaker has claimed that RM1.6 billion of the RM2.4 billion sukuk (Islamic bonds) 1MDB issued through Bandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd is unaccounted for.

Rafizi Ramli said the RM2.4 billion was issued in 2014 to pay for the relocation and upgrading works of the air force base in Sungai Besi, which is Bandar Malaysia land.

However, 1MDB disclosed that the consortium purchasing 60 percent equity in Bandar Malaysia may assume 60 percent of the remaining RM1.9 billion cost to relocate the base.

Therefore, Rafizi, who is also PKR vice-president, said the remaining RM1.6 billion from the sukuk , which was meant for the purpose, would not be used for this.

"So where is the RM1.6 billion, and for what purpose was it used?" he asked during a press conference in Petaling Jaya.

The consortium purchasing the 60 percent stake comprises Iskandar Waterfront Holdings Sdn Bhd (IWH) and China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC).

Concerned over Chinese company

Rafizi reiterated his concern over the involvement of a Chinese company in the relocation of the country's military bases.

1MDB was granted the Sungai Besi land for development, where the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base sits on, in exchange for relocating the base.

The other conditions imposed on 1MDB was for it to also help upgrade eight other RMAF and police bases.

They include the RMAF bases in Sendayan, Ipoh, Butterworth, Gong Kedak, Kuantan, Subang, Kajang and a Police Air Unit base in Subang.

Rafizi said apart from funding, there is concern that the Chinese may gain specific information about these facilities through the deal.
