The High Court in Kuala Lumpur has fixed Feb 24 for mention of lawyer Matthias Chang and former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan's alleged sabotaging financial institutions charge, which was initially placed under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act or Sosma.

Justice Azman Abdullah fixed the date after stating that the notes of proceedings and appeal records are ready for the prosecution's appeal.

"The court fixes Feb 24 for mention," said Justice Azman.

DPP Mohd Masri Daud said the prosecution has yet to fix a date for the Court of Appeal to hear the appeal.

The prosecution maintains that Chang and Khairuddin's charge should be under Sosma and hence bail should not be granted.

On Nov 18 last year, another High Court judge, Justice Mohd Azman Husin, had ruled that the charge of alleged sabotage of financial services does not fall under Sosma and allowed Chang and Khairuddin to be released on bail.

Justice Mohd Azman also ordered the case to be heard before the Sessions Court, and not the High Court.

The prosecution appealed the decision and filed a notice of appeal to the Court of Appeal.

Since the decision, Justice Mohd Azman has been transferred to Shah Alam High Court and replaced with Justice Azman.

Khairuddin was represented by Hanif Khatri Abdulla and Mohd Raffique Rashid, while Chang was represented by Zainur Zakaria.
