Selangor Menteri Besar Mohd Azmin Ali has urged activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, to show proof if he possesses a letter on the logging project tender involving the state government.

He said Badrul should stop “barking” to the media and furnish the letter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“If you have proof, why bark about it daily? Go to MACC.

“He claims to have it (the letter), there is no need to challenge me. Submit the letter to the authorities,” he told reporters.

Yesterday, Badrul accused the Selangor government of lying regarding the tender for logging in two plots of land where electricity pylons are to be built by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) in Chubadak and Makhota Cheras.

The activist also claimed to be in possession of a “confidential” letter which proves that two companies were awarded the logging contract through direct negotiations and not open tender.

He challenged Azmin to declassify the documents in order for the contents to be made public.

However, the menteri besar said he would not entertain the request and reiterated that no logging licence was issued.

“I wish to stress the state government has not issued any licence for logging activities.

“If there is (logging), it will involve public interest.

“All applications will be considered by the Forestry Department and only (those involving) public interest will be considered by the Selangor Forestry Department,” he added.

Azmin also denied being involved in any committee which allows for logging activities in the state,

“Those are the facts I know. I don't know about slander and allegations,” he added.

In an immediate response, Badrul lamented that Azmin had resorted to hurling insults at him instead of addressing the issues raised.

"Criticism of the government's management is part of the democratic process that we strive for. Has Azmin abandoned those principles?" he said in a statement today.

Badrul added that he will hold a press conference tomorrow to address Azmin's challenge for him to reveal the letter.

Badrul had previously refused to reveal the letter as he claimed it is protected under the Official Secrets Act.
