The letter Bankers getting too big for their britches is indeed thought provoking.

With regard to the publication of the names of bank customers involved in legal suits in newspapers and about customer information being given to out outsource companies, I too, am of the view this is wrong.

The Bar Council must look at this strictly from the legal angle. They must come forward and protect the public. Lawyers, too, must come forward and act in the interest of the public.

They have to be absolutely honest and open. I know many lawyers are concerned about getting onto the legal panel of banks. As such, they cannot act against banks as that would deprive them of business.

The duty of every lawyer is to fight for justice. That is what they have been trained for. If they function strictly for monetary reasons - against the establishment of justice - then they have betrayed their profession.

Some lawyers may view the publication of bank customers' names in the newspapers as procedural law. What they have overlooked is that does not hold water if it is against substantive law. The substantive law is that it violates customer secrecy as provided for by the law.

There is great room for thought. Just because banks have been defaming their clients who fail to pay their loans for many years does not mean they are correct.

It simply means that customers are of the opinion that this is the law and lawyers have never given thought to this form of injustice.
