Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is not buying Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s clarification that the RM2.6 billion deposited into his private bank accounts as a ‘donation’ is from a generous donor.

Lim said no such person donating such a huge sum of money without any condition can exist on this earth.

“Who is so kind-hearted as to donate such a big sum of money without conditions? No such person can exist on this earth.

“Even US President Obama Barrack does not have this amount of money donated to his private bank accounts. Why is Najib so lucky while Malaysians are so unlucky?” Lim asked.

“What is so special about Najib that someone wants to donate such a large sum of money into his account?” Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, asked at a press conference in Komtar today.

Lim went on further to criticise Najib by saying that even former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is world famous, could not obtain that amount as donation.

He wondered aloud: “What attraction does Najib have? Who loves him so much?

“Internationally, Najib is not as well-known as Mahathir, and people recognise Najib only after the RM2.6 billion is mentioned.”

Lim was responding to Najib’s interview with several mainstream media, including Utusan Malaysia , TV3 Prima and New Straits Times , in which Najib said:

"I have not committed any offence or malpractice, this has been explained at the Parliament by the deputy prime minister (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi). The donors have been verified and found by the MACC and the commission has also obtained their statements”.

Najib’s interview was featured on TV3 last night, in conjunction with the three-day Umno annual general assembly that began today.

Lim said it was difficult to accept Najib’s explanation when he refused to reveal who the donor is, and this controversy would continue to affect the economic situation of the country.

“The questions I am asking are similar to the queries from investors. It is not ethical to have this amount of money (RM2.6 billion) from an unknown donor in his private bank accounts,” Lim said.

Meanwhile, Lim congratulated the BN component parties Gerakan, MCA and MIC on Najib’s statement in the interview, in which he “ confirmed ” that Umno was working closely with PAS, which is supposed to be the ruling coalition’s arch enemy.

Lim did not elaborate but implied that Najib’s statement was a slap to the three non-Muslim component parties that for long have been criticising DAP for working with PAS, especially after its president Abdul Hadi Awang tabled a Private Member’s Bill on hudud in Parliament.

PAS and DAP have parted ways and since then, a news opposition coalition, Pakatan Harapan, has been formed with DAP, PKR and PAS splinter group Parti Amanah Negara as members.
