Broga group asks land notice to be withdrawn

A delegation of 20 members from the Semenyih/ Broga No Incinerator pro tem committee submitted a memorandum to Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo today, urging him to scrap the project and questioned the procedure of the land acquisition.
The acquisition, expected to affect dozens of households in Broga, was meant for the building of a road leading to the plant.
So far, 18 households have received the letter from the land department last week informing them about the acquisition. More are expected to receive the same notice in the days ahead.
Committee chairperson Dr Zulkefly Mohamad Omar described the acquisition as "procedural defect" since the consortium, Ebara Corporation and Hartasuma Sdn Bhd, hired to design and build the incinerator have not confirmed their undertaking with the project proponent.
"Ebara has been given until the end of this month to respond as to whether it could fulfill the new conditions, so how could the land department precede this final confirmation and want to acquire our land?" Zulkefly asked when contacted.
Meeting next week
He added that since matters pertaining to land is under the state government's jurisdiction, he hoped the menteri besar could intervene.
Apart from informing the land owners of the acquisition, the land department also stated in the letter that a meeting will be called between the department with the affected Broga residents next Wednesday to iron out the details of the acquisition.
The memorandum was submitted to an aide of Khir as the latter was not in the office. The committee also reiterated their reasons of opposing the controversial mega project in the memorandum
The no-incinerator committee has been persistent in pushing for the project to be scrapped. They had sought legal redress and lobbied for international support.
The group held a meeting with Ebara management on Wednesday to express their concerns over the project and reiterated their opposition to the construction of the incinerator.
The committee is expected to take their case to Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak next week.
