Hospital splashed with white paint over uniform row
The entrances at the Damai Service Hospital (Melawati) were splashed with white paint early this morning, said the hospital’s finance and administration manager Regina Sundram.
The attack came in the wake of a controversy in which nurse Naziah Sauni Samat claimed she was sacked from the hospital for insisting on wearing long-sleeves at work, though the hospital has refuted the claim .
Sundram said that at 3.30am, four men on two motorcycles threw pails of white paint at two separate entrances of the hospital building.
"It happened very fast, within a minute. There was a loud bang, by the time I ran out to see, they were gone," she told Malaysiakini .
The hospital has CCTV footage of the incident, but Sundram said they could not make out the plate number of the motorcycles.
A forensics team came to the hospital following a police report which Sundram lodged.
She was told that the pails left behind had no fingerprints which led police to conclude that it was a well-planned attack.
The police will return to the hospital later today to continue their investigations, she added.
The hospital staff are now very worried and scared, she said, as they have also been receiving a lot of threatening phone calls since the news of the terminated nurse came to light.
Sundram said she was especially worried for her late-shift staff as the area tends to be very quiet at night.
Entrances locked
"Imagine if they are ambushed inside as we don't normally lock our entrances especially the entrance to the emergency ward.
"Now we have to lock our entrances and the nurses and guards have to run to unlock them if we do have an emergency.
"We are talking about saving lives here, so every second counts," she said.
Sundram reiterated that they had already informed Naziah about the hospital dress code against long sleeves during her orientation.
She pointed out that if many of their Malay staff had approached them about the dress code, they would have looked into this issue but they could not simply change the rules for one individual.
