PARLIAMENT The police have yet to conclude their probe over the report lodged by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) which denied the existence of a draft charge sheet against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

This was according to Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed at the Dewan Rakyat when winding up the Budget 2016 debate.

On this, Gobind Singh Deo (DAP-Puchong) interjected and made a conclusion that the cops have yet to clear Najib as they could not confirm that the draft charge sheet does not exist.

He then asked, given deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais's demise, would the police summon former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail to give a statement.

"It's up to the police to decide if they want to call the ex-AG. I cannot comment.

"Najib was named in the draft charge sheet. Is Pekan (MP Najib) still qualified to be a prime minister, to control all the government departments, such as investigation agencies?" Gobind ( photo ) asked.

He added that it is not proper for Najib to remain as prime minister when there is still an investigation and a charge sheet against him.

Nur Jazlan then said they should not discuss further on the matter as it may affect the ongoing probe.

"We are supposed to debate on the Budget here (at Dewan Rakyat)," said Nur Jazlan, who is also Pulai parliamentarian.

This led to a verbal fight after Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (BN-Baling) came to Najib's defence, saying that was merely an accusation made by the opposition.

"This is merely an accusation... Where is your proof?" asked Abdul Azeez, who is also an Umno supreme council member.

'According to procedure'

In rebutting, Nur Jazlan said there was separation of powers in Malaysia, so the opposition lawmaker's accusation that the prime minister has his hand in the investigation and the judiciary did not arise.

"I asked if he is qualified (to lead), and your answer is a 'yes'?" asked Gobind.

"I did not say whether it could carry on or not, I just said we have to do it according to procedures," said the Umno supreme council member.

Whistleblower portal Sarawak Report had alleged that former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail had prepared a draft charge sheet against Najib in relation to 1MDB's former subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Present attorney-general Apandi Ali has denied the existence of any such draft charge sheet.
