Umno disciplinary committee member Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas said he does not know if the committee is investigating party deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Megat Najmuddin said he had just returned overseas and is unwell.

“I am not aware if there are any investigations done on Muhyiddin,” he told Malaysiakini when contacted today.

He was asked on speculation surrounding the position of Muhyiddin who was removed as deputy prime minister on July 29 and replaced by Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal from Semporna was also removed on July 29 as rural development minister.

Megat Najmuddin was asked whether Muhyiddin was being investigated by the disciplinary committee and how many complaints it had received on the party deputy president.

Umno supreme council member Abdul Aziz Kaprawi had last August, complained of a leaked video of Muhyiddin saying that Umno president and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had admitted receiving RM2.6 billion into his personal accounts from the Middle East.

Megat Najmuddin's comments come ahead of an expected Umno supreme council meeting tomorrow in Parliament which is expected to see the absence of Muhyiddin and Shafie who are said to be overseas.

There is speculation that tomorrow's meet could see action being taken against Muhyiddin and Shafie. The reason it is being held in Parliament is to avoid the presence Muhyiddin and Shafie sympathisers.

Following Aziz's calls for action to be taken against Muhyiddin, another vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein had on Aug 2 had said to let the disciplinary board decide on the matter .

Committee independent

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had previously said that seven senior Umno members were being watched closely.

Although he did not name the seven , it is believed he was referring to Muhyiddin, Shafie Apdal and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, all of whom have been critical of Najib.

Tengku Adnan had yesterday said the on-going investigations on several party members would be handed to the supreme council for a decision .

Former Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Junid's son Akramsyah Sanusi had last week claimed the supreme council meeting tomorrow was brought forward from Nov 27, with the intent to suspend or sack Muhyiddin and Shafie.

Megat Najmuddin was previously quoted to have said that the committee was independent and impartial and could simply respond to any calls for disciplinary action to be taken against any member.

He said this when asked to comment on Penampang Umno passing a resolution on Aug 23 calling for Muhyiddin to be censured.
