DAP's outgoing youth chief Teo Kok Seong has expressed regret that the Selangor state government has not officially recognised the new federal opposition coalition, Pakatan Harapan.

He said it is as though the former PAS members who have fought to defend Pakatan Rakyat are not being appreciated.

“They (the former PAS; current Amanah members) had to leave PAS based on strong and clear principles. So it is the responsibility of PKR and DAP to defend and assist them,” Teo said in his policy speech at the DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) national convention in Serdang today.

PKR, DAP and PAS were members of the Pakatan Rakyat opposition pact, but the coalition fell apart when DAP and PAS feuded over the hudud issue.

PKR and DAP later formed the Pakatan Harapan coalition with Amanah, which was launched in September and is comprised for former PAS members unhappy with the outcome of this years PAS election, in which party conservatives had made a clean sweep of top leadership positions.

However, Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR deputy president Mohd Azmin Ali said Pakatan Harapan has nothing to do with the state administration, and was only for planning for the 14th general election.

Currently, out of the 56 state assembly seats in Selangor, Pakatan Harapan parties have control of 30 seats.

In contrast, PAS has 13 seats in the state assembly, BN has 12, and there is also one independent assemblyperson.
