Dr M: Yapeim held course in Paris to learn about LGBT?
The marriage courses conducted by Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (Yapeim) in Paris are not to discourage homosexuality, but to learn from it, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad mocked today.
"If you go to Paris, there are a lot of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders (LGBT) there. Maybe they went there to learn about LGBTs?" Mahathir quipped.
The marriage courses conducted by Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (Yapeim) in Paris are not to discourage homosexuality, but to learn from it, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.
"If you go to Paris, there are a lot of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders (LGBT) there.
"Maybe they went there to learn about LGBTs?" Mahathir quipped.
He said this when asked about Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki’s defence of Yapeim's RM490,000 marriage course in France - that it was to discourage LGBT influences among Malaysian students there.
Asyraf had said this while defending Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom and Yapeim in Parliament on Tuesday.
The marriage course in Paris was one of several exposes by the National Oversight and Whistleblowers (NOW) centre.
It was also alleged that Yapeim billed RM410,000 for a trip to the US involving Jamil Khir to a subsidiary fund meant for orphans and poor children.
Mahathir declined to comment on the other aspects of the scandal.
